The Parent's Role

Piano Lesson Interaction
"My daughter's class is the highlight of my week"

- A parent -

When your child spends much of their day at school, how often do you get the chance to sit beside them, discover something new together, and be part of their learning?

At Bright Minds Music, music lessons offer a special opportunity to do just that. By taking part in your child’s musical journey, you can share their discoveries, celebrate their achievements and enjoy making music together. Your involvement helps build confidence, strengthen your connection, and make learning music a positive experience that extends beyond the classroom.

We call this the learning partner approach. A parent, grandparent, carer or other nominated adult supports the child as they develop their musical skills, particularly during the early stages of learning.

Junior Keys

Each Junior Keys student attends with their learning partner, who sits beside them and actively participates throughout the lesson.

This may include helping with posture and hand position, supporting note and keyboard navigation, encouraging focus, and observing activities to help with practice at home.

Your involvement is an important part of the Junior Keys program, helping your child feel supported as they develop new skills and confidence.

Piano Keys

Piano Keys students also attend with a learning partner, who is asked to remain at the studio for the duration of the lesson.

As children grow in confidence and independence, the level of parental involvement naturally changes. Learning partners are encouraged to observe lessons and stay connected with their child’s progress, but may also choose to sit in the waiting area, work quietly, or wait outside the studio.

Learning Together

Every family is different, and our aim is to build a positive partnership between teacher, student and learning partner. You don't need to be a musician or know anything about piano to support your child. Your presence, encouragement and interest in what they are learning are what matter.

Together, we can help your child develop not only musical skills, but also confidence, curiosity and a lifelong enjoyment of music.
